We are delighted when people want to support SODECA and are inspired to learn more about our work. We believe that communities across Kenya have the power to move from vulnerability to dignity, and we are proud that most of our staff and volunteers are local to the project area. They understand the local conditions, challenges, and opportunities, which is critical to our grassroots approach to advancing human rights and social justice.
As a focused and community-driven organisation, we typically recruit for roles based directly in the communities we serve. Our opportunities are often project-specific and require a deep understanding of the local context.
We have a range of opportunities in Kenya for volunteer placements and internships. These include supporting our field teams with community outreach, assisting with human rights documentation and legal aid efforts, helping with fundraising and grant writing, communications and advocacy campaigns, and providing logistical support for our health and education programs. We occasionally offer remote opportunities for specific skills-based projects, such as data analysis or graphic design.
As a grassroots NGO rooted in the communities we serve, we are only able to offer opportunities for non-local volunteers or international applicants if there is a specific need that requires particular skills and expertise that cannot be found locally. Typically, these will be for experts in public health, human rights law, climate resilience, or organisational development who can work on a time-limited piece of research, training, or consultancy to strengthen our local capacity.
